Can I see my puppy before I buy it ?Unfortunately for our safety we do not permit anyone to come onto our property. It is also for the health, wellness and protection of our dogs and specifically our puppies, that we do not allow any outsiders on to our premises. More often than not, and completely unknowingly, outsiders have germs, bacteria, and illnesses on their hands, feet and body. These are highly contagious and easily transmissible to our dogs and puppies of various ages and can at times lead to fatalities especially in young puppies with undeveloped immune systems. We thus like to keep our kennel as a quarantine area. We willingly and happily provide all of our clients photos and videos of their puppies regularly, and are more than happy to facilitate video calls as much as is considered reasonable.

Who is responsible for the first set of vaccines ?We are responsible for your new puppy’s first vaccine; which they receive at their 6-week, full health checkup at our trusted veterinarian; Rant en Dal Animal Hospital in Krugersdorp. You as the new owner are responsible for all of your puppy’s consequent puppy and Rabies vaccines, and thereafter all of their yearly vaccinations.
-
At what age do I spay or neuter my puppy ?As per the terms and conditions of your puppy’s sales agreement you are required to sterilise your puppy at six months of age, at the very latest, and are required to provide us with proof of your puppy’s sterlisation.

What food can I feed my dog ?If at all possible, it is advisable to feed your puppy the best quality kibble that you are able to afford. Like all things you get what you pay for, and the more you spend the happier and healthier your dog is. Most of the slightly more expensive kibble brands are designed through science and are designed to optimize your puppy’s health and condition; and therefor do not require additives of any sort. Here at Callensby our dogs are fed the various ranges of the Royal Canin Food Brand to suit their various needs. To get you started your puppy comes with R200 Digital Royal Canin food voucher which can be redeemed against your first bag of food and is accepted at most vets and pet stores.

What living environment will suit my JRT dog ?It is important to remember that a Jack Russell Terrier is a high energy purpose bred hunting dog, and as such needs daily exercise and stimulation. If you do not have access to a garden, it is important to take your puppy or dog for at least a 45 minute walk every day, once it is old enough and most importantly has had all of its vaccinations. It is also advisable to mentally stipulate your puppy or dog by teaching it tricks and commands and taking it to puppy school if at all possible. Jack Russells love to swim, so if you have a pool, it is a good idea to teach your puppy to swim. Any and all of this stimulation will have your puppy or dog snoozing on the bed or couch for hours.

How will I know that my dog is healthy ?In the veterinary and ownership manual that Callensby provides and comes along with your puppy there are health and well-being indicators and instructions on how to take vital signs and what normal ranges are. It also has a few sections informing you when to take your puppy to the vet and what to look out for. We suggest you familiarize yourself with these or at the very least keep them handy. Once you have gotten to know your puppy, you will soon get an understanding as to when your puppy is healthy and when it is not, and most importantly when to take your puppy to the veterinarian. This information is also available on the website under the responsible ownership tab.
-
What if my puppy dies within the first few days ?At six weeks of age, we take every puppy to the veterinarian for their first vaccinations and checkup and to have them certified as healthy. As long as you follow all the guidelines in your puppy’s veterinary and ownership booklet guidelines there is no reason why your puppy should not live a happy and healthy life. Furthermore we do not sell any puppy that does not get their six week full health certification, and as such unfortunately there is no recourse should your puppy die within the first few days.
-
Can I resell my puppy ?In accordance with the terms and conditions of the sales agreement clients are not legally allowed rehome or resell their puppy or dog for any reason. Should you no longer be able to keep, care for or provide for your puppy or dog, you are required in accordance with these terms and conditions to let us know, and we will at our own cost come and collect the puppy or dog and take full ownership of the dog or puppy.
